Garage

We’ve had a storage shed for the last year, with the ambition that some of the clutter wouldn’t hang out in the apartment no more. But the storage shed was rather narrow, therefor a pain to get things in and out - let alone, keep organized. We’ve upgraded to a garage! Haven’t had time to organize it, but check out all the space still open with everything just dumped in there! Perhaps the ending days to 5 bikes sitting in the living room?

Hot August Nights

We’ve headed east to join Annajo’s fam in attending one of their local events, Hot August Nights. Yup, it’s pretty warm over here.

I’ve been rather lazy at posting, even though I’d like to keep this updated. This weekend I am going to update this post via pictures as things happen.

Starting with a pic of the valley just before rolling into town.

Jillian at 3 days. Brother Nate just went down for a nap when I thought about snapping a pic.

Opening act at Hot August Nights.

Second act was a pretty decent cover band with multiple singers to range many songs.

Hermon’s Hermits headlining. Who’s that you ask? I didn’t know the name either, but I bet you’d know the songs when ya heard them. Oldies but goodies as they say.

Ending Sessions

Last night marked the last night of outdoor soccer for the year. Our league is getting bumped off of Thursday nights and moved to Saturday. Sha… who wants to play soccer on Saturday nights? So we’re going back to indoor on Thursdays like the winter schedule. Really lame actually, indoor twice a week in the last remaining weeks of summer… c’mon! But on the flip side, Mark and Meghan are officially on the roster for both days - even paid in full early! So got more of the crew hanging out now on a regular basis. Just gotta drag Scott back out - new baby… sha, no excuses! Soccer First.

Float’n the Yak

I had always figured that floating the Yakima River would be a good time and have heard tails of such an adventure. Last weekend, we had assembled a group to do just that, float the Yak. I totally under estimated the popularity of this though, there were several other groups doing the same; and in the same ‘floating spirit’ as us. We had pulled out a couple times to relax, resettle, shotgun, and to do some cliff jumping. The we camped right on the river. Needless to say, we had a good time!

Snoho Soccer

Playing soccer with friends, battling a familiar team that is competitive yet good spirited, while various small crafts hover in surrounding skies… twas a good Thursday evening. This was Marks debuting game. Oh yeah, we tied 2 all.

iPhone Post

I now can post via my iPhone anywhere, anytime! Woohoo! Now maybe I will keep this thing updated, even while I’m on the run… maybe. Anyways, here’s a pic from Jared’s wedding:

Baker Lake

For Christmas I was given several items that were essential to downsizing the bulk of my camping gear; so that one day I could hike and camp; but more importantly… load up the scooter for camping. Finally, it took the first weekend of Summer to hit; but nice weather coincided with an open weekend! So a camping trip was planned! Me and Annajo rolled out on the Scooter to Baker Lake; where Jack, Becca, and LB meet up with us shortly after. The spot was excellent; definately going back. In my haste to reserve the only spot still available on Baker Lake; it turned out to be a group site. We had a LARGE area all to ourselves, right on the water. It was a short trip, one night - more of a practice run camping on the scooter. We did well to make it all fit, minus the beer and firewood the trucks hauled in. Got some ideas on how to better distribute the weight to make the cruise’n more ‘normal’ as well. On the return trip, we dumped the gear in LB’s truck to be nimble on the country roads back. We used the weekend well I’d say. Here’s the loop we rolled on the scooter: View Map

Eagle Creek Hike

I headed to Oregon to help Jim move into his new house in Vancouver. We knocked that project out in a day which left Sunday open to play. We rallied up with some Portland friends (Joe, Lindsay, Freed, and Ella) for hiking off of HWY 84 - a popular spot called Eagle Creek. Turned out to be a great day to be doing anything outdoors and the trail was spectacular with a constant supply of waterfalls and steep cliffs to admire. The trail was a gentle incline which made the journey not too bad of a thigh burner, 14 miles total. Took some pics which are below and more can be found on Freed’s and Lindsay’s blogs as well.

Beer, Bikes, and Big Wheels

New Belgium Brewery took their Urban Assault Bike Event to Seattle for the first time last weekend. Annajo was my teammate for team Cutters ( from old 80’s movie ). Other ‘rival teams’ consisted of Jack and Clem with their brothers - we actually stayed together for the most part.

The event consisted of 5 known checkpoints and 3 mystery check points. You had to figure out the puzzle at the check-in to find the first mystery check point, and then solve another clue at that check point to find the other… rinse and repeat.

Knowing the first checkpoint and the 5 others the day before the race, we hopped on the scooters and plotted our course. It was a great day to be cruising around on the scooters. But then my mp3 throttle cable snapped. So, we didn’t get to check out the whole course, but got the hill part mapped out. Spent some time waiting for a toe instead. Hurray AAA.

The race kicked off at 9:00 am and since we got an average score on the impossible pre-race test, we started in wave 2 of 3 - so 2.5 minutes behind the lead! We weren’t in it to win it though - just was there for bikes and beer.

At each checkpoint, a whimsical obstacle had to be completed before moving on as well as 2 riddles to be sorted out. Mad props to Freed for standing by with New Belgium beer knowledge, and Christian for… well trying to Google the random local coffee shop. That one was impossible, but we ‘overheard’ the answer!

To sum up the day - we all had a BLAST! Total riding distance was around 20 miles encompassing Fremont, Capital Hill, Greenlake, and Ballard. Couple hills in the course indeed, the biggest being Denny Way.

Strange Matters

Last weekend, we rallied up with Annie and Family at the Science Center for their Strange Matters exhibit. It was cost effective to get the membership package, rather than just paying for the group to go in once; so we now have free passes to go back to future events! whoohoo!

The event was full of fun hands on exhibits. They didn’t get into the why or how of things - but gotta remember it is to spark interest in kids for science. Also, good excuse to ‘be a kid’ for a day - not that have any problems doing that.

We hit up the IMAX as well. Say a 3D river adventure through the Grand Canyon. The movie was intended to get the word out that our water supply nationally is extremely low. I didn’t realize that the Colorado River dries out before ever reaching the ocean! That wasn’t supposed to be the shocker, other facts about lake / reservoir size decreasing was outlined - but that’s something. The 3D part of the movie was fun and kept everyone entertained as well. Can’t go wrong with splashing rapids in 3D!!!

We ended the outing with a late lunch down on the waterfront. Me and Austin ran up the big stairs on the waterfront, just to be sure we were tired out.

Rodney's Bread Crumbs plugged in.
