Gone Fish’n

p5090126The same day we picked up our sailboat, Jim picked up his new 17′ Lund aluminum fishing boat he had been impatiently waiting for after ordering it. Pretty awesome boat, came fully loaded with canapy, live bait wells… all setup and ready to go with fishing in mind. 90 horses on a light boat, should pull skiers just fine too.

Lingcod season just opened up and the last two weekends we ventured out to get ours. The old Galloping Gurdy that fell down created a haven for lingcod, that’s the spot we go to. Timing the tides is critical, as the current moves through there too fast for fish to eat, and fishers to drag the bottom. First weekend we didn’t have much luck. A&Z were along this trip, and helped catch the sand dabs we use as bait. Dad did catch lingcod, but just a tad under size and he threw him back.

This last weekend we did a little better. We piled in Jim’s boat and the Erkers launched theirs. Erkers had some up to the boat, but didn’t pull in any keepers. We, in Jim’s boat, pulled in several fish, and had three keepers – two of which were mine, so I have bragging rights for awhile.
