Annie and AnnaJo organized a weekend in the snow up at Crystal Mt. for me and Jim’s 30th birthday. Got 3 rooms at one of the lodges up there. Erker clan was there as well as the folks and a few friends; LB, Pat, Dan, and Catie. We really lucked out on weather and the snow was surprisingly good too! Good times were had on the snow by day, and at the Snorting Elk by night!

It’s a big file, give it a second (or a few) to load.

New Belgium Brewery took their Urban Assault Bike Event to Seattle for the first time last weekend. Annajo was my teammate for team Cutters (from old 80’s movie). Other ‘rival teams’ consisted of Jack and Clem with their brothers – we actually stayed together for the most part.

The event consisted of 5 known checkpoints and 3 mystery check points. You had to figure out the puzzle at the check-in to find the first mystery check point, and then solve another clue at that check point to find the other… rinse and repeat.

Knowing the first checkpoint and the 5 others the day before the race, we hopped on the scooters and plotted our course. It was a great day to be cruising around on the scooters. But then my mp3 throttle cable snapped. So, we didn’t get to check out the whole course, but got the hill part mapped out. Spent some time waiting for a toe instead. Hurray AAA.

The race kicked off at 9:00 am and since we got an average score on the impossible pre-race test, we started in wave 2 of 3 – so 2.5 minutes behind the lead! We weren’t in it to win it though – just was there for bikes and beer.

At each checkpoint, a whimsical obstacle had to be completed before moving on as well as 2 riddles to be sorted out. Mad props to Freed for standing by with New Belgium beer knowledge, and Christian for… well trying to Google the random local coffee shop. That one was impossible, but we ‘overheard’ the answer!

To sum up the day – we all had a BLAST! Total riding distance was around 20 miles encompassing Fremont, Capital Hill, Greenlake, and Ballard. Couple hills in the course indeed, the biggest being Denny Way.

Annie had given Mom and Dad tickets for dinner at Teatro Zinzanni in Seattle. She also bought tickets for herself and hubby + me and Annajo. Score! Tickets are spendy. The deal was that I picked up the table tab, I got off cheap! No, we didn’t come with the feathers, well Annie had made sure that the girls were feathered up… but ours were ‘just for the picture.’

So what’s the big deal? The show is, well… unique. Hard to explain, check out the link above more details – but basically it’s a circus like dinner where you sit in a round tent and the ’show’ occurs in the middle (mostly) of the tent – yet amongst the tables. The show consists of various acrobatics, music, and other odd talents – comedy throughout. The cast were also ‘the wait staff’ whose hidden talents were revealed in a manner as a long elaborate way to introduce the next course of the meal – which was then rushed to your table. Highly entertain, big thumbs up!

Billy and Melissa got hitched! The ceremony was simple and short – which was nice. No cake was smushed, but Billy got a bit smeared on his nose. Might be a sign that Billy is getting old – he’s married and is a home owner! LB was the photographer. He used my digital slr for color and his film slr for black and whites. He’s gone pro! Below is a link to some of those pics as well as a collection from others.

Buddy Mark is get’n hitched. Okay, he already got married, but pretend I updated this blog prior to the wedding. His bachelor party consisted of paintball, bbq, and late night volleyball. The paintball place was deep in the woods in Monroe. Lack of signs or any indication that the deeply pitted logging road was ‘the way.’ Once there, it was a blast. Be’n his bachelor party – they had a special game for him. The game was designed basically so that Mark would just get blown away with paint, and he did. At the time, he took it like a champ, but later – oh, the evidence just looked painful.

The evening, we retreated to Jared’s pad for the BBQ and V-ball action. Nice place out in North Bend, just past the falls. We feasted on lots of brats and beer. The main entertainment was volleyball. We played for several hours, quality games too. When it got dark, we pulled the cars up and played via headlights. It was awesome. I think it was close to 2 am when we stopped! Twas a good day.
