Ending Sessions

Last night marked the last night of outdoor soccer for the year. Our league is getting bumped off of Thursday nights and moved to Saturday. Sha… who wants to play soccer on Saturday nights? So we’re going back to indoor on Thursdays like the winter schedule. Really lame actually, indoor twice a week in the last remaining weeks of summer… c’mon! But on the flip side, Mark and Meghan are officially on the roster for both days – even paid in full early! So got more of the crew hanging out now on a regular basis. Just gotta drag Scott back out – new baby… sha, no excuses! Soccer First.

Playing soccer with friends, battling a familiar team that is competitive yet good spirited, while various small crafts hover in surrounding skies… twas a good Thursday evening. This was Marks debuting game. Oh yeah, we tied 2 all.

Over the Winter, we had been doubling up on indoor due to field closures. Our outdoor team was split in two to field two indoor teams; as indoor requires less players. Last Thursday we played the last game of that session… against the other half of our outdoor team. Some might say that they had the better squad – but those people would be wrong since we won! Yeah, okay… we were surpised too. It was one of the more fun games though – just like a pick-up ball of hoops at the park.

Still going to play Tuesday indoor; first game of the new session started yesterday. LB had posed an inspirational challenge over the winter just for Tuesday sessions. He kept a goals scored tally on the refrigerator. It was really more of a competition between him and Scott – as I am normally… hum… okay fine, I don’t score much. But actually over the Winter I scored a few more than normal, but Scott was on FIRE!!! So he takes the trophy (still to be developed). But after our win last night, first game of the new session… I’M NUMBER ONE. Another player on our team had a hat-trick, but he doesn’t count towards the fridge list. So I’m soaking up the bragging rights for now. Check the goal tracker on the right! Go me!

I made my return to soccer. Been letting my foot rest up from a tweak. We were without a goalie, so I volunteered to sit back in the net. This is our first game this outdoor session, and we moved up a level in the league. We of course, were short players, and the other team had enough people for 2 squads – and everyone was outfitted with jerseys.

They sky was just dumping rain, but the field handled it pretty good. The other field out there… like a swamp. We got the good one luckily. I only let one get by me, which is pretty good since I’m not a real keeper. It was a good shot, low, and bounced in off the far post. Doh. We ended up tied the game 1-1. Which is pretty good since are guys had no subs the entire game, and in the second half we played short 2 players.

Streak Broken

Tuesday indoor soccer nights, we tend to play a close game and then fall apart at the end of the first half, followed by a couple more goals against us the second half. We normally loose. Then Thursday night playing outdoor, we haven’t lost. Indoor vs. outdoor soccer, they are fundamentally the same, but in play, very different.

But this week, indoor, we WON. Well, don’t get too excited. We played a new team to the dome, that also have gone without a win. And still haven’t… we did… mwahaha. It was a nice change to be able to control the pace of the game. I have never been a good ball handler, but I was able to get into the mix more than normal – which was fun. My head cold prevented me from breathing real well, so even though my legs were good to go, I needed to sub out to catch my breath. We had a by this week in outdoor, so this wind of change, won’t effect our winning streak. (knocking on wood)
