Just Add Water – Outdoor

posted in: Soccer - No Comments

It looked like the last night’s game was going to be played in the rain. But the rain stopped, just leaving a wet field. Because of this, I wore my old cleats instead of the indoor cleats I bought before the last game. With my limited footwork, having kicks that I’m comfortable with, really made a difference.

This was the second outdoor game. I wasn’t the ‘deer in headlights’ like I was last week. I moved where I needed to be. Played a pretty good game. I didn’t just default to clearing the ball when I got stuck; I was able to feed the ball up and/or carry it forward myself.

We tied 2-2. Which isn’t as good as a win, but this team was better than the first. They had some real good shooters that could fire a dangerous shot from a long ways out. Once again, good clean game. Fun time as usual.

I have to say though, it would have been nice if LB didn’t bail out… GOSH. He decided a bar run in the Ham was more important. Todd (our captain for indoor and outdoor) made it to the game. He literally burried his Grandmother earlier the same day. Feel guilty yet LB? sheesh.

Fell Apart – Indoor

Kelman joined us up in Arlington for some indoor soccer action. We played a team that we normaly beat more than we lose to. We were tied 1-1 after the first half; but it was obvious that we were not clicking.

Second half, we had 5 un-answered goals shell off against us real quick. Bummer. Hard to say how it happened, but we just fell apart. Half of the players on the other team play with us outdoors on Thurdays now. They have some bragging rights this week.

Outdoor – Game One

Last night was our first game of outdoor soccer. Yesterday was also the first nice day of spring we’ve had this year. Our game didn’t start until 9:00 pm, but a nice cloud cover rolled over and it stayed rather warm.

Goode came down and guest starred for us in goal. This was good for several reasons, but the most obvious is that we still only had 10 players on the field. The other team had plenty of people make it – they had about 6 subs on the bench. So we thought fatigue was going to be a major factor, especially since they looked to be in better shape than us.

But we hung in there and ending up winning 3-2. LB and his posse of forwards controlled the game flow. Not sure how they were able to run so hard the whole game. Again, we had no subs – playing 2 45 minute halfs is a long time! Good stuff happened all around. I was a little lost in my positioning, but as the season goes on, I think I’ll get into the swing of things just fine. Goode and the other defenders helped clue me in a bit. Playing outdoors on grass was sure a lot easier on the body. The dome we play indoor is very old turf and is hard on the ol’ legs and back.

Bruisers (indoor)

Last night we had game two of this session, played ‘The Bruisers.’ This is a team that we are pretty evenly matched against. Unlike the whoop’n Amy’s Army delivered us the game before. Ugh, that was a rough day. We were all sick and/or healing wounds, while playing a good team like that. But that’s a different story, sorry no posting on that one. But last night, we thought we had them; but we ended up losing 6-4. We had 3… huh, blooper goals go in against us. Which is unfortunate since Todd normally does an outstanding job in goal. But other than that, we played very well, passed well, and had some really good moments. I even SCORED. I rarely score, so that’s always a crowd pleaser. The Bruisers are a competitive team, but they played clean. Twas a good outting. Tomorrow will be the first day of outdoor!
